Dear Friends News is just breaking of a very severe earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand. The full extent of the devastation is not yet known, although numerous deaths have been reported. Prime Minister John Key announced tonight that "at least 65 people have lost their lives" and noted the rescuers were still scrabbling through the ruins of collapsed buildings looking for injured and trapped survivors - and bodies. Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker tonight said more than 100 people were trapped in about six sites - but it was possible more were trapped in individual houses. There are three Marist houses in Christchurch and so we pray for the communities, the people to whom they minister and all those affected by the earthquake. SIDCUP Is now the House of Formation for the Province of Europe. Daniel Fernandez (Spain) and Thilo Saft (Germany) have both asked to renew their temporary vows which they took at the end of their novitiate on 25th March 2010. With the consent of the council and advice of those in charge of their formation, the provincial has called them to renew their temporary profession for two years. The celebration will take place in Sidcup on Wednesday 16th of March. Please remember them in your prayers. YOUR CHARITABLE PRAYERS are requested for the repose of Mr Ivan Vodopivic, father of Br Ivan, who died recently as was buried from St Joseph’s, Handsworth, Sheffield, Friday 18th February. We assure Ivan and the family of our prayers for his father. May he rest in peace.
The Provincial of Oceania, Fr Paul Donoghue, has asked our prayers to Fr Colin, seeking his intercession with the Lord on behalf of Brother Mua Saurava, who made his first profession in the Society in December 2008, and has now been told he has cancer. Medical care is not an option, and Mua is being given palliative care. All confreres are invited to join the members of the Oceania Province in their prayer for Mua:
Most Holy Trinity, if it is in accordance with your Most Holy Will that your servant, our Founder Jean Claude Colin should be glorified by the Church, show us the favour he enjoys in Your sight by granting us the grace we now ask of you through his intercession, that you grant to our confrere, Brother Mua Saurava, a miraculous cure from his terminal illness and restore him to our community in good health and well‐being.
EUROPEAN MEETING of the MARIST LAITY will take place in Francheville (just north of Lyon) and will be attended by members from all parts of Europe. Various types of accommodation will be available. All rooms are equal in that they all have lavabo, shower and toilet. They basically offer the same kind of comfort. The difference is in the number and the positioning of the beds: Chambre single €430.00 Chambre comfort is primarily for couples € 350.00 Chambre à 2 lits: 2 beds that cannot be put side by side €340.00 Chambre à 3 lits: 3 beds (2 can be put side by side &1 separate bed). €330 plus the cost of travel.
