 Dear Friends

In last month’s Newsletter I mentioned that there could well be “change” in 2010 and that is what has happened. I am now in the process of moving from Hull to Sheffield and have become quite expert in finding my way to the local ‘tip’ with car loads of  rubbish which I have garnered over 32 years in Hull. It is truly amazing the various ‘worth keeping’ items I have unearthed. Perhaps I would have been kept more focused if I had had to move rather more frequently. Dust on books is always a good indication of the use made of the particular volume. So far I have taken four car loads of ‘invaluable’ rubbish to the tip and transported two car loads of useful items to Sheffield. Obviously there has been and will be some disruption in communications but I hope to be able to retain my Email address. My address in Sheffield:

St Oswalds

126 Southend Road

Wybourn

SHEFFIELD S2 5FT

0114 272 3881

If I am able to work out the process I should be able to change the address on the next Newsletter. Both the Marist Way and the Marist Pilgrimages will continue as at present. At the same time I have had a growth removed from my hand and this has involved a number of hospital visits. So far the recovery has been very good.

I am desperately trying to get this Newsletter written, printed and posted whilst being involved in the “Region of England’s” Assembly in which we will be making a response to both the General and European Chapters. This could, and should, be a defining time for the Region of England as we look to our numbers, our responsibilities and our future. Mary, Queen of the Society of Mary – pray for us.

THE SEASON OF LENT        Begins on Wednesday 17th February and so now is the time to start the mental preparation for this wonderful season. It is worthwhile to decide to perform some daily mortification during lent in order to focus our minds on the great Easter Mystery – the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

REJOICE, MOTHER OF GOD

Here is a celebration of the joys of the Blessed Virgin Mary taken from an anthem of the Byzantine Rite. Recalling Mary’s joys on earth is felt to be a preparation for sharing eternal joy with Jesus Christ in heaven.

Rejoice, Mother of God, Virgin Immaculate

Rejoice, you who received joy from the Angel.

Rejoice, you who conceived the brightness of eternal Light.

Rejoice, Mother

Rejoice, Holy Mother of God and Virgin.

All creation extols you.

Mother of Light, pray for us.

SWANWICK CONFERENCE

Please make a note in your diary – Friday 17th / Sunday 19th September 2010, Sr Monica SM, a Marist Sister, will be the keynote speaker for the conference “What is the Marist Message for Today?” Cost will be around £150.00 per person. Booking forms will be available later this month and it will be important that we have some idea of actual numbers by the middle of February 2010. This will be a very important occasion and we will need your support.

MARIST PILGRIMAGES

Next May seems a long time away but it is surprising how quickly time passes. The Marist Lourdes Pilgrimage will depart by coach on Saturday 29th May and return Saturday 5th June. The cost will be around £10 more than last year, which were – Hotel Padoue £510.00 and Hotel Esplanade £380.00. This includes coach travel, full board and travel insurance. Booking forms now available.
